Strip Washing

Strip washing seems to be everyone’s solution for an issue with their nappies. It’s important to remember it is not always a miracle solution to a nappy problem.

Nappies that are suddenly leaking and appear to be less absorbent then previously may have a build up of detergents or other materials may benefit from a strip wash that will help remove the build up. Nappies that have smells that just won’t go away may also benefit (the smell can be due to build up of detergents or even urine). You may also like to do a strip wash on any second hand nappies coming into your home.

So how do you strip wash. I’m going to suggest two ways, both work. It’s a matter of your preference.

1. Squirt a bit of dishwashing detergent into a bucket of hot water or your laundry tub. Soak overnight. Then wash through with an extra rinse on warm water. No hotter then 60 degrees. Dry the nappies.

2. Soak your nappies in warm water and a single dose of good quality laundry detergent. Soak overnight and follow with a really good wash.

Strip washing is easy. It should give your nappies a good deep clean. There are also lots of products on the market that can help with strip washing.
